Final Project Proposal

For my final project in this class I would like to sing/perform the song "Pretty Funny", from the musical Dogfight. This will show my strengths because I have been singing and taking vocal lessons since I was really young. I fell in love with theater this year but music has always been my passion. That is why musicals are one of my favorite things have ever existed. I think that this final project will be something that both makes me really excited but also very nervous, which I think is a sign that it is a good project to end with.

I want to do this as my final project because I have presented monologues, directed, and even edited a silent film in this class; so I want to expand and present something in this class that I have not presented yet. I think that this song has a certain emotion that kind of ties into the monologues I have presented in this class. Rose, the character who sings this song, is an unconfident girl who steps who tries to step out of her comfort zone only to feel worse then she had before. I will also give some background on the musical itself and explain the context of this song.

I think that this will challenge me because I am still kind of shy when singing in front of people so this will definitely push me out of my comfort zone. This will be something I will practice a lot for my final performance. I think that it would be a challenge getting the emotions across while singing and through song. I will have to do some things that I never had to do during my other performance in this class, like staying on pitch and following the music.

I think that this project will be something I will work hard on and something I will try to make my best performance of the semester.
