How Would You Stage "City of Stars"?
If I were a director, I would stage the monologue City of Stars, there a few things I would do to add my own unique spin to it. One thing I would do is suggest a bright colored dress as a costume for the actor. I think that a sundress or something close to that would add more to the character and the overall whimsical feel to this scene. I would really want the I would really love it if I could be able to stage this performance with a sky that's a kind of purplish pink. I think that it will add to the dreamy aspect of the scene, which would be a point that I would really like to emphasize. During the scene, I think it would be really cool to transition into the night and add stars in the sky. The stars are kind of the metaphor, so we are seeing her imagination. I think that the background scenery should also be some small stores in a part of the city, so it feels even more like a dream. I also would want there to be a restaurant, that the actor could point at. I think it could also be really cool if there was a person who is just sitting on the bench and offers her a flower when she says "It's love". The other person does not need to talk, but just provide a more vivid image to the audience of her imagination. She can walk around the stage and express her hope for her dreams. At the end I would want the night scene to come back on.
