Adding Tech Elements

 I think that Pacifica's song-alogue, City of Stars, could be even more amazing after adding in more stage tech elements. If I were the director of this song-alogue I would have played more on the fact that the whole theme is whimsical and dream like through costume,
For costume, I think the actor should wear a yellow sundress because it is the iconic dress from the show and is easily recognizable. If not the yellow dress, then a dress in a different primary color that stands out. I think that this is important it adds to the overall mood of the entire performance. It really showcases how the real world may be bleak and sometimes harsh, therefore the background of the movie was duller, but the people who had dreams wore bright colors and that showed a gap between "reality" and dreams. I think that it would also make the actor stand out more on stage, which is always important.
As for props, I think that I would keep it really simple with just one bench. This song-alogue is finding dreams in the "city of stars" so I think that the performance should be more raw and instead of props, there should be more background scenery. Since the lines focus on hope and discovery of someone's dreams I think the speaker should be more free and have more free movement instead of focusing on using a certain prop.
I think the background be painted a light indigo like purple with maybe a little pink. It could be like late sunset, which would add more to the dreamy feeling of this scene. Purple is often used in the movie of La La Land as the color of the sky and I have always loved how much that detail added so much more color to the entire film. I would love to take inspiration of that. I would not want a very loud background, since I feel that this song-alougue should be more personal and the audience should be able to have a feeling of more emotional intimacy with the character. I think two lampposts on either side of the stage could also go really well with the scene. It again would add more of a whimsical flare and the actor could use that to their advantage by putting their hand on and spinning around the lamppost while speaking or utilizing it in other ways that adds to their performance.
I found it fascinating how tech elements can change one scene so much. I feel that City Of Stars has a special and unique feeling of being in a dream and I feel that these stage tech elements could help create that feeling even more. Through the actor's performance and the magic of stage tech we can share a story that leaves the audience in a daze.
